Martin Lawrence and Sony reunite on ‘Blue Streak’ Sequel


A ‘Blue Streak’ sequel is in the works with Martin Lawrence returning to produce the film.

Martin Lawrence biggest hit movies as a solo star is going to get a sequel, with Sony announcing Blue Streak 2 is in the works.


(Martin, Big Momma’s House, Bad Boys franchise) and Sony are keeping the good times rolling after the success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die with a sequel to Lawrence’s 1999 comedy Blue Streak.


On Friday (Oct. 25.) Deadline announced the surprise project is in the early stages of development at Sony Pictures, with Cole Masika penning the screenplay. In addition to reprising his role as Miles Logan, the jewel thief turned police officer from the 1999 buddy comedy Martin Lawrence is producing via his Run Tel Dat production company—Robert Lawrence, Rae Proctor, and Stacy Lyles are also producing, with Toby Jaffe producing through RDV Films.


No cast or director has yet been confirmed, but the report does reveal that Cole Masika is now working on the screenplay, with insiders stating that Blue Streak 2 “is in early development with no other talent involved.”

 

The 1999 film, “Blue Streak” starred Lawrence as Miles, a former jewel thief who poses as a cop to retrieve a stolen diamond buried inside a police station. He decides to disguise himself as a detective and gets paired with a real policeman, played by Luke Wilson, to investigate his own burglaries. 


The film topped the U.S. box office and went on to gross nearly $120M globally. Les Mayfield (“Flubber”) directed the original.
