The film also marks Jamie Foxx's return to the limelight after his recent hospitalization for a medical emergency.
Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz get pulled into spy work in Netflix’s ‘Back in Action’ Trailer
In this new action packed film, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz transformed into CIA spies in the first trailer for their thriller Back in Action on Thursday (Nov. 14.) - after his near-death experience on set.
“Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown,” a synopsis teases.
Back in Action stands out as Diaz's first movie role since 2014's Annie, which Foxx also starred in. Diaz's return to acting was first announced in June 2022, and she and Foxx were later seen filming the action-comedy as soon as December of that year.
Production on the movie continued through January 2024. The film's production made headlines in April 2023 when Foxx had a medical emergency that interrupted filming for a period of time.
Following his hospitalization and assurances to fans that he was "on his way to recovery" in May 2023, Foxx was seen back on set in January. “For Jamie, the show must go on and he has always been eager to see this project completed.”
Netflix first shared footage from the movie in February as part of a larger teaser for the streamer's 2024 slate, showing the pair fighting a group of men outside a gas station in a short clip.
Cameron also teased "new music," from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and advised fans to catch the film soon:
Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close and Andrew Scott also star in the action film, on Netflix Jan. 17
