Snoop Dogg reportedly teams with Lionsgate for his 1st film project under Death Row Pictures.
Tyrese Gibson stars in Snoop Dogg-produced crime thriller ‘1992’
Lionsgate has released the trailer for the upcoming action-crime thriller 1992 on Monday (July 1), starring Tyrese Gibson with production by Snoop Dogg.
Snoop Dogg said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “1992 was a life-changing time for me, from ‘Deep Cover’ to ‘The Chronic.’ But as things in my life were coming together, everything in L.A. was coming apart. 1992 is a heist movie that really captures all of that. This movie is about an L.A. moment. Ariel made an outstanding film that depicts this moment in time. From my first encounter with Tyrese in Baby Boy to the performance in 1992, I had to be a part of this. And it’s only fitting that the film comes out under Death Row Pictures as Death Row is synonymous with L.A. culture in the ’90s, ya dig?”
‘In the 1992 film, Mercer (Tyrese Gibson) is desperately trying to rebuild his life and his relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 LA uprising following the Rodney King verdict. Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta and Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist to steal catalytic converters, which contain valuable platinum, from the factory where Mercer works. As tensions rise in Los Angeles and chaos erupts, both families reach their boiling points when they collide in this tense crime-thriller.’
Tyrese Gibson confirmed via on his Instagram account. This was one of Ray Liotta’s final movies he made after his death. Liotta passed at the age of 67 on May 26, 2022, from heart and respiratory issues. At the time, there were several projects he had already shot.
Vromen (The Iceman) directed the film from a screenplay Sascha Penn and Vromen off a story by Penn. 1992 is also produced by Andreas Rommel, Maurice Fadida, Penn and Adam Kolbrenner.
The 1992 reunites Snoop Dogg and Gibson, who previously co-starred in John Singleton’s 2001 drama Baby Boy.
The Ariel Vromen-directed and -produced movie also stars Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola and Oleg Taktarov.
Lionsgate's crime thriller '1992,' produced by Snoop Dogg's Death Row Pictures and starring Tyrese Gibson, will hit theaters on August 30.
